FONASBA Annual Meeting 2019

FONASBA’s 50th anniversary Annual Meeting will take place at the Shelborne Hotel, Miami, Florida from 30th September to 3rd October 2019, hosted by ASBA (USA) Inc.

Social and Networking Programme

Networking compliments the formal work programme and the social events have been organised to allow delegates and partners to meet and mingle. The events are:

Friday 4th October:
An optional excursion to the Everglades, including a ride on an air boat and a tour of a Miccosukee settlement: The Miccosukee are a Native American tribe living in the Everglades: ( The tour starts from the hotel at 9.00 am and should return by 3.30 pm.  A separate fee applies (see below).

Delegate Fees

  • The Delegate fee is US$ 750.00 per person and covers the Delegate and social programmes.
  • The Partner fee is US$ 700.00 per person and covers the social programme.
  • The Everglades Optional Excursion fee is US$ 80.00 per person.

Delegates will be invoiced by FONASBA on behalf of ASBA after registration (see below). Payment can be made by bank transfer or credit card. Details will be provided on the invoice. All registration fees must be settled in full before the start of the Meeting.

Please note that due to the cost of bank transfers in the US, a fee of US$ 25.00 per delegate will be charged for payments by made by credit card. For payment by bank transfer, a fee of US$ 30.00 will be added to each transaction. Payments for multiple delegates from the same association should therefore be made at the same time in order to avoid additional fees.


Please note that registration is a separate process to booking your hotel accommodation (see below).

Hotel Fees:

Hotel fees under the FONASBA group booking are as follows:
Single Room: US$ 209.00 per night
Double Room: US$ 239.00 per night

Both rates include breakfast and resort fees. Please note that US hotel rates do not normally include breakfast or resort fees. For rooms booked outside the FONASBA group discount they will therefore be charged as extras to the quoted rate.

One night’s accommodation plus taxes will be charged as a deposit to the nominated credit card on booking. The balance of the charge will be payable on departure.

Hotel Transfers:

There are a number of options for transferring between the two closest airports, Miami International (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL), and they are as follows:

Taxi Service – Safe and effective

MIA to South Beach – minimum of $32

FLL to South Beach – depends on traffic – no minimum but probably at least $50

Super Shuttle – offers group ride/individual ride

Shared rides from MIA – around $20

Shared rides from FLL – between $20 and $25

Miami International Airport (MIA) – depending on time of arrival – trip to Miami Beach from 30 to 45 mins.  Longer at AM/PM rush hours and from 6-10 PM.

Uber/Lyft – Additional Airport Pickup fee of $2

Upon arrival follow signs to Baggage Claim/Ground Transportation.

Once bags are claimed – request a car – proceed to Passenger Pickup areas at “Arrivals” ground floor.
(MUST NOTE – Terminal and Door #)  There are 6 Terminals at MIA. No designated areas for Rideshare Pickup.

Fort Lauderdale (FLL) – depending on time of arrival – trip to Miami Beach from 35 mins to an hour.  Longer at AM rush hour and from 6-10 PM.

Uber/Lyft – Additional Airport Pickup fee $3

Upon arrival follow signs to Baggage Claim/Ground Transportation.

Once bags are claimed – request a car – proceed to Rideshare Pickup areas

Innermost curb – between Terminals 1 &2 and Terminals 3&4


A full refund of the accommodation deposit collected on booking (see above) will be made if rooms are cancelled no later than 4 pm 72 hours before arrival. Cancellations made after that time will incur a penalty, see the Shelborne cancellation policy.

If registrations are cancelled before 13th September, the fees will be refunded exclusive of bank transfer or credit card fees. There will be no refund of registration fees for cancellations after 13th September.
